23rd June 2023
Chalon-sur-Saône to
Villefranche-sur-Saône
Distance: 68 miles / 110km
Climb: 1,490ft / 454m
Total Distance Cycled: 615 miles / 989km
Today’s cycle was along the gorgeous Saône valley, much of it along the river. Today saw myself and Geoff pass the half way mark from Cheltenham to Barcelona but it won’t be until Sunday that the team reach the halfway mark of our 1600km journey from Brighton to Barcelona.
We have cycled through beautiful and varied countryside, through sleepy villages, busy towns and everything in between. The temperatures have been searingly hot, humid at times but overall the weather has been kind to us. The torrential thunderstorms that we have witnessed have all been from the comfort of our hotels and none have intruded on our cycling.
Another long day in the saddle, many of us are saddlesore and weary and yet, at the same time, there is so much laughter, camaraderie and fun. There is an energy and excitement in the group as we each challenge ourselves and support each other.
We have our only rest day tomorrow and it has been a long time coming!

Great video. Massive well done to you all – I can’t begin to imagine the miles you are clocking up!
Enjoy your rest day (actually I think you have already had it, just looking at dates!….I hope it was relaxing!!)
Onwards!!!
