Yellowstone – Canyon Village to Pahaska Tepee Resort 15th June 2025
48 Miles / 2,083ft climb
Thinking we had seen much that Yellowstone had to offer, we set off for our day’s ride out of the national park, stopping off in wooded cabins for one night at the Pahaska Tepee resort on the way to Cody.

With an ‘easy’ 45 mile route, we weren’t feeling under any time pressure and stopped to enjoy more spectacular vistas. We were treated to a number of wildlife encounters which were wonderful to experience. First a young deer, a bear (no bear spray needed) and the enormous bison, at times, disconcertingly close to the road we were cycling on. Local enthusiast offered their telescope lenses trained on wolves and a variety of other animals in their spectacular environments and educated us about their habits and habitats.
Late afternoon threw us a long, hard climb in blistering heat where we reached the Sylvan Pass summit at 8524ft. We must learn from this and plan better to ensure we are not climbing for long periods with our heavily laden bikes at the hottest time of day.

Just before the climb

We were however rewarded with stunning views and several miles of exhilarating descent into Pahaska Town resort where we will spend the night.
Today is the tenth anniversary of my diagnosis of Parkinson’s. I have more to say about this but am too tired and a little too emotional to do it justice by writing about it tonight.

I really am lost for words. Long may your drive and determination continue! Xx
