After having my bike fully serviced, I was looking forward to a smooth and efficient ride today. I was keen to set off by 7.30am as the temperature was set to soar in the afternoon. I had no great expectation that we would achieve this start time as the others were all leaving (Marianne and Steve for the second time), we had farewells to say and between us all, there was a fair amount of pfaffing to be expected.
By 9.30am we had cycled exactly 0.2 mile and Caroline, John and Paul were fixing my second puncture of the morning!

With 60 miles to go we were expecting a long day. However, we found the road to be quiet, flat and easy riding, the latter possibly something to do with our lighter panniers. The scenery offered us nothing spectacular today and with no shade on offer anywhere, we didn’t stop to take many photographs. A brief stop to share a pizza for lunch, another to pick up some food for the evening and we were at our cabin on a working farm in Basin by 3pm.

A lovely place to relax and to check our routes and plans for the next few days. We are in Wyoming, where there are vast distances between towns meaning that we need to make sure we stock up with sufficient food and water between accommodations. It would be disastrous to be caught in this searing heat with inadequate water supplies.

We rustled up a feast from basic grocery store ingredients, played a few games of cards – much more sedate tonight than with all eight of us yesterday and we retired to bed by 10pm, ready to repeat again tomorrow.

Gosh, you really have caught the sun! Hope it’s not painful. We’re having a mini heatwave at the moment, but have the choice of whether to spend the whole day in it, or not. Take care of yourselves xx
Wow Alison! The different sites & people you must be experiencing crossing over & into each state. I’m glad John is with you. Although I suppose people interactions are brief with long riding days & I suppose after dinner you are ready for rest! Do you burn through your meds quicker with the long exercise days? I find I do with my tennis. I top up a bit to get me through the 2 to 2 1/2 hours…of course I’ve got a few more years on me! lol! Are people joining you for certain parts of the journey? Still on your shoulder rooting heaps for you all! Xoxo
Wow Alison. How are you feeling? Do you require more meds when biking long days.? I found I burn through mine quicker when playing my 2 hr tennis matches. This is an amazing journey & so great John is with you. Are others just joining for certain portions of the trip?
Truly in awe of you all – well done for doing brilliantly on such a tough challenge. You are all amazing. Really enjoy reading your updates x
Embrace the faff, it’s an integral part of any cycling journey. 😁
