Cycle Across America – Day 33

Ten Sleep to Meadowlark Lake lodge

21 miles / 4,450ft climb

Of course it was tough! That’s why we split the ride between Ten Sleep and Buffalo, foregoing our rest day later in the week to cycle 4,500 ft up the Big Horn Mountain range and to stop, rather than then have to cycle another 50 miles and climb a further 2,500 ft that same day.

Our stop at Meadowlark Lake Lodge was welcome. The climb was tough and long but not impossible with my lighter weight panniers. Thanks John for carrying to some of my heavier items. Thanks to Caroline and Paul for the regular pit stops, for your patience, your ability to intuitively know what I need, sometimes before I know it myself and of course your route planning expertise. With regular pit stops and a fairly steady pace, I watched the miles to destination and climb ahead figures diminish slowly but consistently and by early afternoon we had reached our destination. Our legs are used to cycling now and I never contemplate for even a minute that I might not get on my bike the next day. We certainly have a routine, possibly a ritual that ensures we are prepared mentally, physically and practically for each day’s ride. There is a lot of work that goes on, packing and unpacking and organising behind the scenes and so far it seems to be working.

Not sure this does the hills justice!

  1. It’s a journey on so many different levels. I’m still enjoying reading the blogs. What a good riding team you’ve got, knowing what’s needed before it is. Love the next post too with the photo of the bar. So much to take in. Sending loads of love as usual xx
