Mackinaw City to Petoskey
42 miles / 600ft climb
Today’s route started on a lovely bike trail. We were grateful to be off the highway again and at various parts of the trail we were close to the water’s edge. It was shaded from both the wind and sunshine and was beautiful. Sounds idyllic, so I won’t dwell on the swarms of flies that regularly landed on us causing a few expletives and much frustration. If I had to choose between flies (despite the bites/ stings) and the tankers on the highways, the flies win every time and so we swatted them away and swore at them from time to time and continued on our beautiful trail.
We had a cheeky little stop at a vineyard and tasted a few wines in the early afternoon. I could quite happily have stayed there all afternoon but needs must!

Arriving at our destination by early evening, it was a quick turn around. A friend of a friend has a summer home very close to where we are staying and invited us for supper. We had a wonderful evening. Never before have I taken my dirty washing to someone’s home when going for supper but needs must. We have huge appetites from all the cycling we are doing and Stephanie knew how fruit and vegetable depleted we were. Supper resolved all these issues and was simply the best meal we have had in the last few weeks. The company was lovely and it was such a gorgeous evening. Thank you so much Stephanie and Greg!

Perfect! X
