Cycle Across America – Day 95

Johnstown to Clifton Park

43 miles / 823ft climb

After yesterday‘s cycling experience, I might have been forgiven for curling up in bed and refusing to get on my bike today! Tempting but thankfully, I knew things couldn’t get much worse than they were yesterday. No one in the right mind would’ve chosen to go out in that rain for a 63 mile cycle!

Anyway it’s a new day, we’re surprisingly pain free despite yesterday’s collision and so we set off on a 43 mile cycle.

It didn’t rain. It wasn’t too windy. I didn’t get a puncture. I wasn’t knocked off my bike. The sunshine re was lovely. We were still predominantly on the Empire State Trail and it was stunningly beautiful yet again. What’s not to love?

Our only real coffee stop option was at eight miles and it felt too soon to stop then, so we carried on for 30 miles and stopped for lunch at Simone’s Kitchen, where we ate a fabulous Mediterranean mezze lunch. Well done, John for finding that one – a vast improvement on the sweaty three day old sandwiches we were enduring not so long ago!

A thoroughly enjoyable ride today, a lovely hotel, a huge meal out this evening, a vast improvement on yesterday.

Hills tomorrow – lots and lots of them. Apparently I can’t avoid them forever. If we are to reach the Atlantic we have a few very hilly days ahead of us and only 360 miles to go.

  1. So close now especially when you see where you are on the map – I’m sure that will help you smash those final hills. That front tyre is edging closer to the Atlantic.

  2. What an improvement! Glad you’ve had a chance to stock up on food fuel to get you up those hills. Hoping you get huge tail winds to get you up them in a jiffy! 320miles! A snippet it your books. XX
