Clifton Park to Bennington
44 miles / 2031 ft climb
I had been more than a little apprehensive about today, the first of a few hilly days as we head up and over the Appalachian mountains. I needn’t have worried. Our legs remembered exactly what they were supposed to do and we both enjoyed an undulating ride, taking us out of New York State and into Vermont to the very lovely town of Bennington.

We stopped twice along the way to refuel, thoroughly enjoying the blackberry pie and ice cream on offer at our second stop. Refuelling and rehydrating are so important and finally the quality of what is available is significantly improving.

Our hotel in Bennington is very unique and we are surprised to have a huge suite and four poster bed! I don’t ever recall being offered or booking such an elaborate room. We were recommended a French restaurant there where we left behind all concerns about fast food and had a wonderful meal. Best not get too used to this as it is back to Best Western tomorrow after what promises to be a slightly longer and hillier day again!

Sounds perfect. Even the hills! Good luck with the next day of climbing. Not that you need it, you are both clearly very strong.
Sounds like us conquered it today! 👍👏 And discovering a yummy French restaurant & 4 poster bed! Divine 🐝💕
Good to get a few feet of climbing under your belt! Sounds like a romantic day, with your 4 poster and French cuisine 😉😍xx
