Wednesday 27th August
Manchester to Salisbury via New Castle (and the Atlantic Ocean)
42 Miles / 1175ft climb
A relaxed start today. We are under no time pressure and so we intend to take it easy and simply enjoy reaching our destination.
In reality, we have three destinations.
1) Our destination for the day – Salisbury.
2) Our final destination this week to complete every one of the 4,500 miles we committed to – Waltham, Boston.
3) Our destination for the past 100 days for this challenge – Atlantic Ocean.
Results
1) Completed! 42 miles cycled today to reach Salisbury, despite the afternoon rain.
2) Almost there! 102 miles to go to complete our 4,500 mile challenge.
3) Completed! We reached the gorgeous town of New Castle on the Atlantic Ocean by 1pm today, had a very quiet celebration and carried on cycling to Salisbury!

Fully intending to have a big celebration tonight, I managed a margarita, a starter at the restaurant next to our hotel and promptly fell asleep!
It feels very surreal that we have actually reached the Atlantic Ocean. It hasn’t quite registered yet but when it does, I’m hoping I can stay awake long enough to celebrate!

A huge CONGRATULATIONS to both of you!! What an amazing journey.
Thank you for taking us along with you via your blog – I looked forward to keeping up with your journey each day! Wishing you a safe trip home.
Jen, from Ten Sleep :)
I prescribe more margaritas!! 🍸 An emotional time ahead with the realisation of what you’ve achieved, the journey home, catching up with family and . . . writing that book?! ☺️ xx
No doubt it feels surreal. Rear wheel in the Pacific followed by 4500 miles and 101 days to then place the front one in the Atlantic. Every pedal turn, every hill, every plain, every mile – all under your own steam. What an odyssey. Congratulations to you and John.*
*Not to forget Caroline and Paul Broekman, plus all of the other supporters along the way.
