Hill City
Crazy Horse Monument – Crazy People!
There was a complete misunderstanding between the four of us today. Today was our first rest day in the ten days since we left Cody. I was excited for our rest day. I envisaged getting up when we woke up. No 5am alarm call, no cycling, a chance to do our laundry, make a few phone calls home, perhaps a swim and hot tub at our hotel spa, maybe a glass of wine at lunchtime and a little afternoon snooze in the shade of a cottonwood tree. A perfect rest day. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
The others however, entirely misunderstood the concept of a rest day. Up at 7am they cycled (yes, they got on their bikes and cycled) a 30 mile, very hilly round trip to visit the Crazy Horse Monument. Crazy people. They invited me to join them but the response they got left them in no doubt that we had entirely different understandings of the concept of resting. They thoroughly enjoyed themselves and I’m pleased that each of us could do as we wished on our rest day but I’m going to have to figure out a clearer terminology if I wish the others to understand the concept of resting!
Tomorrow we start another ten day stretch of cycling up to 80 miles a day before we have another rest day. During this time, we will pass the half way mark in terms of mileage of our journey. So, for the purposes of educating the others before our next rest day, please see below.

Not Resting

Brilliant! I’m with you on that one! X
Sensible you!! Hopefully you feel a bit rested, ready for the next 10 days 🥴🤞😘😘
Totally with you on the rest day protocol.
Well done on reaching half way! Into the home straight now. 😎
