Cycle Across America – Day 61

Rice Lake to Hayward

56miles / 1,762ft climb

Due to a puncture and problems repairing it, John and Paul didn’t set off until about 10.30am. By this time, Caroline and I had enjoyed a quiet and picturesque twenty miles.

Another ten miles marked the lunch stop where we decided we would wait for the boys to catch us up. This made for a long, leisurely lunch for us girls.

The sky looked ominous as we set off after lunch but we had no choice but to tackle the remaining 25miles. With ten miles to go, it was raining hard and we were grateful when we completed these last few miles.

We arrived at our hotel to find the annual world lumberjack competition was being held nearby, so after a shower and a brief snooze we walked down to a local bar from where we could watch the last few competitions.

It was here that we met Sandi and Alysia and their partners and enjoyed their company. Sandi and I shared a chat about the challenges of living with a chronic condition. It was uplifting, inspiring, positive and emotional, all rolled into one very interesting chance meeting.

A late supper of fish and chips to top up those much needed calories and off to bed.

  1. My eyes are dim, I cannot see so well on my phone, but I do detect a likeness in you two ladies! x

  2. It is interesting to see that the miles covered are becoming the platform, and less so the challenge. On this day, to a picturesque journey and the opportunity to engage and share with Sandi.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure you are exhausted at the end of each day! Yet you still pen a blog.
