A short road test

Another day of preparations. Bikes reassembled and transported to Astoria ready for a short ride to the coast tomorrow to dip our wheels in the Pacific Ocean to officially mark the start of our 4,500 mile journey to the Atlantic coast.

Enormous thanks to this lovely couple who drove from Seattle yesterday to meet us at the airport, take us to Astoria and join us for our first few miles tomorrow. We met Dave and Kathy when we cycled together to Barcelona in 2023. Very experienced cyclists and bike packers who completed the across America challenge a few years ago, we have much to learn from them. For today though we have enjoyed their company, are grateful for their help, their local knowledge, their restaurant selections, photos for this blog and for making the start of our journey so much easier but more importantly, nicer than it might otherwise have been.

PS We haven’t forgotten Caroline and Paul. They are setting off from the UK tomorrow and we’ll meet up with them in Hood River in a few days time.
